In this significant move toward integrating digital currency within mainstream financial transactions, AT&T will be relying on BitPay, a crypto payments platform, to facilitate this new payment option. BitPay, known for its service that allows the conversion of cryptocurrencies into fiat currency claims to be used by more than 20,000 businesses worldwide.

“We have customers who use cryptocurrency and we are happy we can offer them a way to pay their bills with the method they prefer,” said Kevin McDorman, Vice President of AT&T Communications Finance Business Operations.

This strategic decision by AT&T aligns with its ongoing interest and investment in blockchain technology. Toward the end of 2018, the company shared its plans to develop a suite of blockchain solutions to enhance transparency and accountability across complex supply chains.

These solutions are designed for institutional customers in industries like manufacturing, retail, and healthcare; they are compatible with major blockchain infrastructure offerings, including Microsoft Azure and IBM’s blockchain solutions.
